Project Cargo Summit goes to Bilbao
Following the successful outing in Bremen in 2023, ProMedia and its Project Cargo Summit team have turned their sights to a new adventure and have partnered with the Port of Bilbao. So for the 2024 edition of the Project Cargo Summit, project cargo, breakbulk and heavy lift industry specialists will gather in Bilbao for two days of content and networking.
The increasingly tense geopolitical landscape is continuing to test the supply chains and the project cargo market in 2024. However, as always market players are adapting to the environment and pushing forward with megaprojects across the globe, offshore wind being one of the main demand drivers.
This meant that the Port of Bilbao, with its focus on wind energy, was a natural partner for this year’s event called Offshore Wind Getting Mega! The Port of Bilbao has established itself as a major hub for wind power components and is home to several component manufacturers using the port as its export hub.
“Bilbao has become a vital hub for the renewable energy sector, excelling in manufacturing, logistics, and export of wind components. Internationally recognized companies have established manufacturing plants within the port boundaries, contributing to its prominence in the industry,” Amaia Sarasola, Marketing & Commercial Manager at Bilbao Port, said.
But it is not all about the wind industry. Over the two days of programme and networking, Project Cargo Summit and its speakers will look into the megaprojects taking shape across the globe, port handling equipment and capacity that is needed to keep up with the scale of projects and how to move large project cargo in crowded areas, among many other topics.
The port is also actively expanding its facilities to meet the growing demands for breakbulk operations. “The port is at the forefront of adopting sustainable practices including the implementation of onshore power supply. This not only aligns with the global shift towards environmentally responsible operations but also positions Bilbao as a leader in fostering sustainable solutions with the breakbulk industry,” Sarasola said, adding, “We are very happy to host the Project Cargo Summit this year and bring the community together. It is also an opportunity for our breakbulk and project cargo customers to learn, share knowledge and build new connections through the networking possibilities this event brings.”
You can already save the date, 17-18 September 2024! See you in Bilbao!
